August Festivity 
Swedish crayfish


In August the evenings are warm and dark, it is nice to have a party in the dark with lots of candles and lamps.

Many people in Sweden arrange “Crayfish party” and “Surströmmings party” (fermented Herring). 

It is a special tradition to eat Crayfish in August…. The Swedish crayfish is very expensive, so most people eat the imported ones from Turkey, USA and Kina, but they are still prepared and cooked in the traditional Swedish way, with dill, salt and sugar.
There shall be lot’s of crayfish on the table, the people are wearing silly hats and and a papper bib around the neck… The beer and schnapps is a must and “schnapps song” are to be sung….. 



A national dish from Norrland (up north in Sweden) is “Surströmming” 
or fermented herring. It doesn’t smell very good, but those who tasted it say it’s taste good…
